Ingredients For Cumin Rice Hebber's Kitchen

1 cup basmati rice

2 cups of water

2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)

1 teaspoon cumin (jeera)

1 bay leaf

2 cloves

1 inch cinnamon stick

1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) for garnish

Instructions:


Wash and soak basmati rice: In a large bowl, rinse basmati rice under running water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky. Then, soak the rice in water for 20-30 minutes. Drain the rice and keep aside.


Cook the rice: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a large saucepan or pot. Add 1/2 tsp salt to basmati rice soaked in boiling water. Cook the rice on low heat until the water is completely absorbed and the rice is soft and fluffy. It should take about 15-20 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the rice rest for 5 minutes before gently fluffing it with a fork.


Prepare the cumin rice tempering: In a separate pan, heat ghee on medium flame. Add cumin, bay leaves, cloves and cinnamon stick. Fry the spices for 1-2 minutes, or until the cumin is golden brown and fragrant.
